James Beaumont was the second son of Beaufort "Beau" Beaumont and his wife Virginia. The Beaumont family has lived in the New Orleans area for over two hundred years and have established themselves within the community. James' father was a highly respected defense attorney who had an office in downtown New Orleans. Beau Beaumont was known for living an incredibly lavish lifestyle and for having multiple affairs with much younger women in which Virginia turned a blind eye to. The Beaumont children grew up in a large manor and were mostly raised by their maid. Virginia spent her days at the club with the ladies or was out spending her husband's money on things that she did not actually need. James grew up quickly due to the lack of supervision and like his own father he enjoyed the finer things in life. Those that knew him when he was a young man would say that James Beaumont had an arrogance about him. But there was also something incredibly charismatic about him.
In 1956, while attending Tulane University, James met Charlotte Taylor, the woman who would become his wife.
Charlotte Taylor was the oldest daughter of Mason Taylor and his wife Georgia. The Taylor family owned a plantation just outside of New Orleans where the family continued to reside even after the Civil War. Charlotte came from a very Catholic background and attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart. Georgia Taylor was extremely devout and taught her children to both fear and respect not only God but the blessed Virgin. It was something that Georgia would later attempt to teach to her grandchildren years later - despite their father only being a Protestant. Charlotte attended Tulane University as a communications major and had high hopes to become a news reporter. It was there that she met James. The two began dating and when James graduated he proposed.
The couple married on June 15th, 1957, much to the dismay of Charlotte's parents. They settled into the home that Beau Beaumont had built as a present to the couple, the home that the couple still lives in to this very day. James followed in his father's footsteps into law while Charlotte's dreams of journalism took a backseat. Their first child was born in 1959 and by 1974 there were six Beaumont children in total. In 1976, James decided that it was time to run for office (it had been a dream of his for years) and in 1978 he was elected to be the democratic senator from Louisiana.
Charlotte ran the household while her husband was busy in the Senate. The marriage became strained and by 1983 they were sleeping in separate bedrooms. Tragedy struck in 1985 when their third child, Ophelia, was killed in a car accident. Their oldest child, Blank, was the one behind the wheel and had been drinking that night. James used his connections to cover everything up. The only people who know the truth are James, the police officer, and two of James' children (Sibling #1 and Sibling #2).
In 2000, James retired from the U.S. Senate and returned to life in Louisiana. He and Charlotte are still very involved in the community and James is a beloved leader within the local government. Some wonder if one of his five children or multiple grandchildren will follow in his political footsteps but only time will tell.
